What you can drink during Induction on the Atkins diet?

As diets go the Induction phase of the Atkins Diet may possibly be the most rigorous part of the low carb diet plan. With all of the foods and drinks that must be avoided during induction, it may be hard to figure out what is permissible.

The reason for the tight restrictions during Induction is because this phase of the Atkins Diet is targeted to changing the body’s metabolism. It is very important to adhere to all of the rules regarding food and drink during the Induction phase because this is the first phase of the Atkins low carb diet.

The main point to note about food consumption during Induction is that it is restricted to 20 grams or less of carbs per day. It may be hard to conceive of what foods would contain minimal to no carbs, but it is necessary to try to consume the odd 20 or so grams of carbs each day. Salads and low carb vegetables are a good source of healthy carbs.

So, what should you eat now that carbs are essentially eliminated from your diet? The Atkins Diet centers around the concept of a high-protein, low-carb diet. Good, high-protein foods include red meat, chicken, nuts, dairy products, and olives. If you are uncertain about the carbohydrate content of a food, check the nutritional label, or refer to the Internet for good carbohydrate counters.

Foods that are restricted during Induction include anything made with grains, sugar, or flour. High-sugar content fruits, high-starch content vegetables and legumes are also off limit. It is very important to not skip meals and to drink plenty of water. Try your best to drink eight tall glasses of water each day. Besides for water, you can also drink club soda, coffee, tea, no-fruit herbal tea, no-calorie mineral water, and some varieties of diet soda.

Caffeine Should Be Avoided By Some Dieters

Some people who consume caffeinated beverages experience changes in appetite and blood sugar levels. For these people who are affected and are on the Atkins Diet, they should avoid drinking caffeinated drinks all together.

Only Some Diet Sodas Are Allowed

Not all diet sodas available out there are allowed during the Atkins Induction phase. The diet sodas that use certain artificial substitutes for sugar are not allowed during the Atkins Diet.

Alcohol Is Allowed On a Limited Basis

Induction usually occurs for 14 days or more. During the first 14 days, alcoholic beverages are off limits. However, if you stay in the Induction phase for over 14 days, you will be permitted to drink one glass of wine, one low-carb beer, or some spirits mixed with water, one time per day. Drinking alcohol after 14 days will be at your own discretion since it may negatively affect the rate of weight loss.
